Officer-Involved Shooting After Standoff In Stolen Car

An officer-involved shooting followed a lengthy standoff with the driver of a stolen vehicle Monday evening in west Houston.

At approximately 7:20 p.m. on July 6, 2026, a Houston Police officer conducting a self-initiated patrol investigation ran the license plate of a vehicle parked near Westheimer Road and Suffolk Drive.

According to police, the vehicle had been reported stolen out of Fort Bend County. After receiving multiple calls regarding the vehicle, the officer requested backup.

Additional officers arrived around 7:24 p.m. and repeatedly ordered the driver to exit the vehicle. Despite approximately 25 minutes of verbal commands, the suspect refused to comply.

A team of officers then approached the vehicle. As the driver’s door opened, officers said the suspect made a movement indicating he may have been armed, prompting multiple officers to fire their weapons.

After the shooting, officers backed away and deployed a Houston Police Patrol Support Unit drone to determine whether the suspect was still moving inside the vehicle.

Once the scene was deemed safe, officers removed the suspect from the vehicle. Houston Fire Department EMS transported the suspect to a local hospital, where he was reported to be in stable condition.

Video from the scene showed two officers sitting on the curb, including one with a bandaged hand, though police have not confirmed whether either officer was directly involved in the shooting or injured during the incident.

The officer-involved shooting remains under investigation.
