Lutheran Church Engulfed In Flames In Oceanside

A Lutheran church was engulfed in flames Sunday evening as firefighters battled a major structure fire in Oceanside.

The fire was reported at approximately 5:08 p.m. on September 7, 2026, at 4507 Mission Avenue near Valley Heights Drive.

According to Oceanside Fire Department Battalion Chief Anthony Walker, arriving firefighters found the church fully involved in flames. Due to the intensity of the fire, crews initiated a defensive attack and worked from outside the building to bring the blaze under control.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Oceanside and Vista fire investigators are investigating the incident, with federal investigators also assisting.

No additional information regarding the cause, injuries or extent of the damage was immediately available.
