SWAT Ends Hours-Long Standoff After Family Stabbing
A family disturbance escalated into a lengthy SWAT standoff after a man allegedly slashed his brother’s throat before barricading himself inside a Houston home.
At approximately 7:20 p.m. on July 9, 2026, Houston Police officers responded to a family disturbance at a residence in the 7700 block of Hornwood Drive.
According to investigators, the suspect became involved in an argument with family members before pulling out two knives and cutting his brother across the throat.
The victim, a man in his late 40s, suffered injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening. He was treated at the scene and was not expected to require hospitalization.
When patrol officers arrived, they found the suspect, a man in his late 30s, outside the home armed with a knife. He refused commands to surrender before retreating back inside the residence.
Houston Police’s Patrol Support Team secured the area while the SWAT Team and Hostage Negotiation Team responded. Officers later breached a window and deployed a drone inside the home to confirm the suspect’s location. A robotic dog was also sent into the residence, but the suspect continued refusing to surrender.
After negotiations failed, SWAT deployed CS gas into the home. The suspect eventually exited the residence unharmed and was taken into custody without further incident.
Police recovered one knife from the scene. Investigators said the suspect lived in the home with his brother, his brother’s wife, and two children, including one teenager and one child under the age of 10. Authorities confirmed no hostages were inside the home during the standoff.
The suspect was arrested on charges of family violence and aggravated assault against a family member.
