A 15-year-old passenger was killed and three others were injured in a violent crash that ended with a suspected DUI arrest early Sunday morning on the 215 Freeway in Riverside.
At approximately 3:30 a.m. on August 23, 2026, officers responded to southbound I-215 near Cactus Avenue following reports of a traffic collision.
According to the California Highway Patrol, preliminary investigation indicates a BMW was traveling southbound at a high rate of speed when it collided with the rear of a GMC towing a trailer carrying a side-by-side all-terrain vehicle.
The impact caused both the BMW and ATV to overturn. The BMW ultimately came to rest in the middle lane of the northbound 215 Freeway.
A 15-year-old passenger inside the BMW suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The BMW’s driver and two additional passengers were transported to a local hospital with moderate injuries. The driver of the GMC was not injured.
CHP said the BMW driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.
The fatal collision remains under investigation.
