Driver Trapped After Box Truck Slams Into Tree

A driver was hospitalized after a box truck overturned and became wedged against a tree Monday afternoon in Riverside.

At approximately 1:06 p.m. on August 24, 2026, firefighters responded to the area of Pierce Street and Riverwalk Parkway following reports of a traffic collision requiring an extrication.

Crews arrived to find a heavily damaged box truck on its side and smashed against a tree with the driver trapped inside.

Due to the position of the truck and complexity of the rescue, a heavy rescue response was initiated and Rescue Truck 3 was requested to the scene.

Firefighters worked to stabilize and support the truck against the tree while conducting an extended extrication operation to reach the trapped driver.

After being freed from the wreckage, the driver was transported to a local hospital with unknown injuries.

Firefighters remained at the scene for more than an hour.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
