Woman Killed After Running Across Houston Freeway

An unidentified woman was killed after running across multiple lanes of traffic and being struck by a pickup truck Sunday night in Houston.

At approximately 8:00 p.m. on August 23, 2026, officers were dispatched to the area of 9977 Gulf Freeway following reports of a woman running along the service road and creating a traffic hazard.

According to HPD Sgt. Derek Hall, an officer initially drove through the area without locating the woman before turning around and eventually spotting her on the service road.

The officer pulled into a nearby parking lot and instructed the woman to get out of the roadway. Police said she then ran across the service road and eastbound traffic before continuing across the HOV area.

When she reached the westbound side, she was struck by a pickup truck and suffered fatal injuries.

The woman had not been identified as of the investigation at the scene. The medical examiner responded to assist with determining her identity.

The female driver of the pickup truck remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Police said the driver had no involvement in the original call.

Investigators were documenting the scene and searching for surveillance video as they continued investigating the fatal collision.
