10 Hospitalized After MCI Crash In Whittier

Ten people were hospitalized, including three in critical condition, following a major crash involving a passenger van Sunday night in Whittier.

At approximately 9:15 p.m. on August 23, 2026, emergency crews responded to Telegraph Road and Biella Way following a collision involving a white passenger van and a gray sedan.

Both vehicles overturned during the crash. The passenger van, believed to be carrying nine people, came to rest on its side against St. Gregory the Great School.

Due to the number of patients, firefighters initiated a mass casualty incident response.

Three patients were reported in critical condition, while seven additional patients were transported to area hospitals. The driver and believed sole occupant of the gray sedan initially declined transportation but was ultimately taken to a hospital due to his injuries.

A possible third vehicle with significant rear-end damage may have fled the scene, although its involvement had not been confirmed.

Telegraph Road was closed in all directions as emergency crews worked the scene and investigators examined the collision.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
