Pool Hall Owner Shoots Alleged Burglary Suspect In Houston

An attempted burglary at a Houston pool hall ended with one suspected intruder being shot by the business owner early Thursday morning.

At approximately 2:00 a.m. on July 16, 2026, Houston Police responded to reports of a shooting near the 7200 block of North Shepherd Drive.

Investigators said a man in his 20s was found at a nearby Jack in the Box suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg. He was transported for medical treatment.

According to police, the 70-year-old owner of the pool hall heard banging behind the building and went outside armed with a handgun to investigate.

Authorities said one suspect acted as a lookout while a second suspect, reportedly carrying a crowbar, confronted the owner. Investigators say the second suspect charged toward the owner, who then fired his weapon, striking the suspect in the leg.

The second suspect fled the scene with the lookout before the injured man was later located after Jack in the Box employees called 911.

The pool hall owner told reporters he believes the suspects may have been attempting to steal televisions that had recently been removed from the walls by a contractor, making them easier to take.

The investigation remains ongoing.
