DHL Cargo Plane Disabled After Landing At LAX

A runway at Los Angeles International Airport remained closed Thursday morning after a DHL cargo plane experienced an apparent brake system issue while landing Wednesday night.

The incident occurred at approximately 11:10 p.m. when a Kalitta Charters II aircraft operating on behalf of DHL landed at LAX.

According to DHL, the aircraft experienced an apparent brake system issue that resulted in the brakes overheating. Initial reports indicated the aircraft’s tires appeared to catch fire during the landing.

Video from the scene shows Los Angeles Fire Department crews responding to the aircraft, with what appear to be detached tires visible nearby.

No injuries were reported, and all crew members were safe, according to DHL.

Los Angeles World Airports said Thursday morning that the aircraft remained on the airfield and the affected runway would remain closed while crews coordinated its safe removal. Airport officials said the closure could impact operations, although no major delays were reported Thursday morning.
