Street Racing Suspected In Fiery Redlands Crash

A late-night freeway crash left a Corvette engulfed in flames and prompted an investigation into possible street racing in Redlands.

At approximately 11:15 p.m. on July 13, 2026, California Highway Patrol officers, Redlands Fire Department crews, and AMR paramedics responded to a crash on the eastbound 10 Freeway just east of California Street.

Initial reports indicated one vehicle had gone off the freeway while another was on fire in the middle lanes.

When crews arrived, they found a Corvette fully engulfed in flames with the driver sitting safely on the right shoulder.

The driver initially told first responders that a passenger had been inside the vehicle. Firefighters and officers searched the nearby embankment using flashlights and thermal imaging cameras before determining there was no passenger and that the driver had been the sole occupant.

The driver was evaluated by AMR at the scene and declined medical treatment.

CHP later detained the driver for further questioning as investigators worked to determine the circumstances leading up to the crash.

Witnesses told investigators that as many as six vehicles appeared to be racing just before the collision.

No other vehicles involved in the alleged racing were located at the scene.

The California Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the crash.
