Driver Faces Manslaughter Charge After Deadly Houston Crash

A woman was killed and two others were hospitalized following a two-vehicle crash Sunday night in Houston.

The collision occurred at approximately 9 p.m. on August 30, 2026, near East Orem Drive and Dawn View Lane.

According to Houston police, a Jeep SUV was traveling westbound on East Orem Drive when it collided with a Honda Accord exiting a residential neighborhood. Witnesses reported seeing the Jeep traveling at a high rate of speed before the collision.

An adult woman inside the Honda was pronounced dead at the scene. Two additional occupants of the Honda were transported to an area hospital in stable condition.

The Jeep was driven by an adult man who had a juvenile family member riding with him. Neither was injured.

Police said the Jeep driver showed signs of intoxication and was taken to an off-site location for evaluation by a drug recognition expert.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sgt. Garcia said the driver was expected to face a reckless manslaughter charge. Authorities said the charge could later be changed to intoxication manslaughter depending on the results of the continuing investigation.

The investigation remains ongoing.
