RV Smashes Into Building And Shears Fire Hydrant

Three people escaped with minor injuries after a large RV crashed into a vacant building Monday morning in West Whittier.

At approximately 8:32 a.m. on August 31, 2026, emergency crews responded to the 11900 block of Washington Boulevard in unincorporated West Whittier following reports of a vehicle into a structure.

Firefighters arrived to find a heavily damaged RV that had crashed into the front of a vacant building that had recently been used as a rehabilitation facility. The collision also sheared off a nearby fire hydrant, sending water into the air.

All three occupants were able to get themselves out of the RV. One occupant described having to remove debris from a female passenger before helping her escape.

Preliminary information indicated the driver may have fallen asleep behind the wheel, although the circumstances leading up to the crash remain under investigation.

Tow crews later removed the RV from the building, revealing significant damage to the front of the structure. Fire officials then reassessed the building’s structural integrity following the removal.
