Father And Child Killed In Crash With Fire Engine
A collision involving a Riverside County Fire Department engine and a Mini Cooper in Hemet left two people dead and four others injured on May 29, 2026.
According to authorities, the crash occurred at approximately 12:24 p.m. at the intersection of Domenigoni Parkway and State Street as firefighters were responding to a vegetation fire along Highway 74 near the San Bernardino National Forest.
Investigators said the fire engine was traveling northbound on State Street with its emergency lights and siren activated when it collided with a Mini Cooper traveling westbound on Gibbel Road, which becomes Domenigoni Parkway at the intersection.
The 43 year-old driver of the Mini Cooper suffered critical injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene after being extricated from the wreckage.
A 10 year-old boy riding in the front passenger seat was transported to Inland Valley Medical Center with severe injuries but later succumbed to those injuries.
A second juvenile passenger riding in the rear seat was transported to Riverside University Health System with injuries of unknown severity.
The three firefighters aboard the engine also sustained injuries and were transported for evaluation. Officials said all three were later released from the hospital.
The intersection remained closed for several hours while investigators from the California Highway Patrol processed the scene. Authorities stated there is no indication that drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.
The CHP is leading the investigation because a state-owned emergency vehicle was involved.
