Massive Lumber Yard Fire Spreads Into Brush In Lake Arrowhead

Firefighters launched an aggressive air and ground attack after a major lumber yard fire spread into surrounding vegetation and a nearby campground Saturday afternoon in Lake Arrowhead.

The fire was dispatched at approximately 2:20 p.m. on September 5, 2026, at a lumber yard on Torrey Road, across from McKay Park and McKay Dog Park.

Arriving crews reported the roughly two-acre lumber yard heavily involved in fire. The property contained large quantities of firewood, with piles reportedly reaching 12 to 15 feet high, allowing flames to spread rapidly throughout the yard.

The fire then extended into surrounding vegetation, burning approximately one to two acres at a rapid rate of spread. Strong west winds pushed the fire north toward a campground located uphill behind the lumber yard.

Multiple spot fires developed in the camping area as firefighters worked to prevent the flames from spreading farther into the surrounding vegetation. Crews launched an aggressive ground and aerial attack and were able to hold the vegetation fire within the campground area.

San Bernardino County firefighters and U.S. Forest Service resources remained on scene facing an extensive mop-up operation involving the large firewood piles and surrounding burned areas.

No information regarding injuries was immediately available.
