Verona Fire Destroys Homes And Vehicles In Juniper Springs
At approximately 12:30 p.m. on May 19, 2026, firefighters responded to the Verona Fire burning near Juniper Flats Road in the Juniper Springs area.
Fueled by strong winds and critically low humidity, the fire rapidly expanded to hundreds of acres within hours and continued growing overnight.
Authorities reported multiple structures and vehicles were destroyed as flames pushed through the area in several directions due to shifting wind conditions.
During the fire fight, a large fire whirl, commonly referred to as a “fire nado,” crossed the roadway and remained visible for several minutes near firefighters and media crews.
At least one firefighter reportedly suffered minor injuries while battling the blaze. There were also unconfirmed reports of residents being transported with injuries.
The Verona Fire was one of several major wildfires burning across Southern California amid dangerous fire weather conditions.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
