A semi truck hauling approximately 2,000 pounds of lithium batteries overturned after striking a stalled pickup truck late Monday night on the 15 Freeway in Rancho Cucamonga.
At approximately 11:30 p.m. on August 31, 2026, Rancho Cucamonga CHP received reports of a collision on the northbound 15 Freeway, south of Foothill Boulevard.
According to preliminary information, a pickup truck was stalled in the slow lane when it was struck by the semi. The impact sent the pickup onto the K-rail while the semi overturned over the barrier.
The pickup driver was outside the vehicle when the collision occurred. The semi driver was transported to a hospital with unknown injuries.
Authorities later determined the semi was hauling approximately 2,000 pounds of lithium batteries. Multiple heavy-duty tow trucks responded to recover the semi and its trailers.
A SigAlert was issued for approximately two to three hours while crews worked to clear the scene.
The cause of the collision remains under investigation by CHP. No additional information was provided at the scene.
