At approximately 1:00 p.m. on June 18, 2026, California Highway Patrol officers and Cal Fire/Riverside County firefighters responded to a major commercial vehicle collision on northbound Interstate 215 near Harley Knox Boulevard in unincorporated Riverside County.
Upon arrival, emergency crews found a box truck that had rear-ended an Amazon delivery truck, leaving the driver of the box truck severely trapped inside the crushed cab.
Due to the extent of the damage, firefighters initiated a lengthy technical rescue operation to reach the trapped driver.
Specialized heavy-duty rotator tow trucks were brought to the scene and used to carefully separate the vehicles, allowing rescuers access to the victim.
The extrication effort lasted approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes before firefighters were able to safely free the driver.
The injured driver was transported to a local hospital with moderate injuries, including possible fractures to his lower extremities caused by the intrusion into the cab.
The driver of the Amazon truck was also transported to a hospital. The extent of those injuries was not immediately released.
The crash caused major traffic delays, with CHP issuing a SigAlert expected to remain in effect for several hours while crews completed the rescue, investigation, and cleanup operations.
The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
