FBI Serves Search Warrant At GKN Aerospace
Federal authorities served a search warrant at GKN Aerospace in Garden Grove on the morning of June 10, 2026, as part of an ongoing investigation into the chemical storage tank emergency that forced thousands of residents from their homes over Memorial Day weekend.
Agents with the FBI and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency arrived at the aerospace manufacturing facility on Western Avenue seeking records and evidence related to the handling and storage of methyl methacrylate (MMA), the chemical involved in the incident.
According to court documents, investigators are looking into possible violations of federal requirements designed to prevent the accidental release of extremely hazardous substances into the environment.
The emergency began when a large storage tank containing MMA overheated, prompting widespread evacuations across Garden Grove and Stanton amid concerns the tank could rupture or explode. Authorities ultimately determined the danger had subsided after a crack developed in the tank, relieving internal pressure.
Officials continue to monitor air quality around the facility while plans move forward to remove MMA from additional storage tanks at the site.
The federal investigation comes as residents and local leaders continue to demand answers regarding the incident and compensation for those impacted by the evacuations.
GKN Aerospace has announced millions of dollars in community assistance funding, including donations to local relief efforts and nonprofit organizations.
The investigation remains ongoing.
