Powerful King Tide Flood Long Beach Oceanfront Homes
Large waves pounded the Long Beach coastline on the evening of June 14, 2026, causing significant erosion to a protective sand berm constructed to shield oceanfront homes from high tides.
The strongest waves pushed water over portions of the berm near Ocean Boulevard and 64th Place, flooding walkways, porches, and areas directly adjacent to several residences.
Numerous sandbags had been placed along the shoreline in an effort to protect homes from encroaching water, but residents said the unusually powerful surf continued to overwhelm some of the barriers.
Video from the scene shows waves crashing into the berm and washing water onto beachfront property as homeowners monitored conditions throughout the evening.
Residents expressed concern about ongoing erosion and the potential for additional flooding if the high surf and elevated tides continue.
Officials continue to monitor coastal conditions as strong wave activity impacts portions of the Southern California coastline.
