Possible Fireworks Lead to Massive 2 Alarm Tire Shop Fire
A massive fire destroyed a tire shop in La Habra on the night of July 4, 2026, prompting a two-alarm response and the evacuation of nearby residents.
The fire was reported at approximately 10:09 p.m. at a tire shop located at 131 South Monte Vista Street. Firefighters assigned to a nearby fire station spotted heavy flames coming from the business and immediately responded, requesting additional resources as the fire rapidly intensified.
Los Angeles County Fire Department crews upgraded the incident to a second alarm as they worked to prevent the blaze from spreading to neighboring buildings.
La Habra police officers evacuated nearby residents as firefighters battled the fire. One woman was assisted from the area by officers before being transported to a local hospital after experiencing difficulty breathing.
Several nearby residents told firefighters they heard what sounded like fireworks shortly before the fire broke out. Officials have not confirmed whether those reports are connected to the cause of the fire.
During suppression efforts, elevated ammonia levels were detected in the smoke, prompting a hazardous materials response to monitor conditions and ensure firefighter safety.
Firefighters brought the bulk of the fire under control by approximately 11:45 p.m., but the tire shop was declared a total loss.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
