Fast-Moving Summit Fire Triggers Evacuations
A rapidly growing vegetation fire prompted a massive firefighting response on July 10, 2026, after breaking out near the Los Angeles and San Bernardino County line.
The Summit Fire was first reported at approximately 12:50 p.m. burning in medium to heavy brush with an immediate threat to nearby homes.
Within a short time, the fire grew from just a few acres into hundreds of acres as strong winds pushed the flames through dry vegetation. Fire officials quickly upgraded the response, ordering additional engines, hand crews, helicopters, and numerous fixed-wing air tankers to protect threatened structures.
As the fire continued to spread, evacuation orders and warnings were issued for nearby communities while firefighters worked to slow the fire’s rapid advance.
This video shows the first day of firefighting operations, capturing the aggressive aerial attack and the fast-moving fire during its initial growth.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
