CHP Flips Overturned 4 Runner And Driver Drives It Away in Snow Storm
At approximately 7:30 p.m. on April 13, 2026, a sudden burst of heavy hail, graupel, and snow created dangerous driving conditions across the San Bernardino Mountains, leading to multiple crashes and spinouts.
Within minutes of the storm intensifying, a Toyota 4Runner overturned in the Running Springs area. Responding California Highway Patrol officers used a tow strap attached to a patrol vehicle to flip the SUV back onto its wheels. Despite visible damage, the vehicle was able to drive away from the scene, and the driver was not injured.
Authorities reported multiple vehicles became stuck or lost control as hail and snow rapidly covered the roadways. The storm intensified quickly after appearing to move out earlier in the evening, dumping hail and graupel before transitioning into snow.
Chain control restrictions were briefly implemented as crews worked to manage hazardous conditions. The storm lasted about an hour, with conditions improving shortly after as snow began to melt.
