Fiery Fatal Rollover Crash

INCIDENT DATE/TIME: 3-24-24 5:05 pm
LOCATION: SB I-5 @ Palomar St
AREA/CITY: Chula Vista
DETAILS:

1. Witnesses told the CHP that two vehicles were racing at high speed and swerving in & out of traffic.
2. One female driver with her 3 passengers saw the BMW driver coming up fast behind her and she changed lanes.
3. The male in the BMW went around her and swerved into her, hitting her drivers side front end.
4. The women were not injured.
5. The BMW went across all lanes of traffic and up the embankment below the Palomar St overcrossing.
6. The BMW then hit a tree head-on and rolled back into the traffic lanes.
7. The BMW landed on its roof.
8. The driver was ejected.
9. The other car, a white Ford Mustang with a black stripe left the scene.
10. Good Samaritans stopped and one started CPR on the male who was ejected.
11. The male was declared deceased at the scene.
12. All southbound lanes are blocked (as of 6:10 pm).
13. The CHP is investigating.
