Santa Cruz: CZU August Lightning Complex Fires Destroy Homes

08.22.2020 | 12:00 PM | SANTA CRUZ – Multiple homes were destroyed as the CZU August Lightning Complex Fires scorched over 63,000 acres, Saturday afternoon.

The fires believed to be caused by a number of lightning strikes on Monday merged into what authorities are calling the CZU August Lightning Complex.

The CZU designation refers to the Cal Fire San Mateo-Santa Cruz Unit.

As last report the fires had scorched 63,000 acres and was only 5% contained.

Multiple homes and other structures were lost as flames spread rapidly throughout the area.
