The vehicle is believed to be a Toyota Prius which is highly targeted by catalytic converter thieves due to the easy access of the underside.. Orange County Coroner’s Office in on scene Police are alarmed by the surge in catalytic converter thefts, police have said it only takes about a minute for a converter to be cut off of a car. Catalytic converters are being stolen for the precious metals inside that can be scrapped for money. An employee of a neighboring business said he saw someone under the car with a saw and jack, he ran over and discovered that the man had been fatally crushed.
