Man In Custody After I-17 Pursuit

INCIDENT DATE/TIME: 04-09-2024 | 11:30 PM
LOCATION: I-17 & McDowell Road
AREA/CITY: Phoenix
DETAILS:

1. A DPS road Captain attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a black Honda Accord on southbound I-17 near Thomas Road.
2. The vehicle refused to yield and a pursuit was initiated.
3. The suspect quickly exited the 17 at McDowell Road.
4. The suspect continued south over McDowell on the access road before turning right onto 24th Avenue.
5. Seconds later the suspect lost control of his vehicle.
6. The suspect bailed from the vehicle on foot and jumped a chain-link onto the SB I-17 to WB I-10 transition ramp.
7. The suspect then jumped off the transition ramp and began running south in the landscape under the I-17 / I-10 stack.
8. Troopers with assistance from the Phoenix Police Air Unit, located the suspect as he approached the southbound black canyon access road under the stack.
9. Troopers converged on the suspect and took him into custody without further incident.
10. A firearm was located inside the suspects vehicle.
