Baytown: Barricaded Suspect Ignites Massive House Fire

07.24.2020 | 6:32 PM | BAYTOWN, TX – A suspect who barricaded himself inside a house later lit the home on fire causing a massive blaze during a standoff, Friday night.

Authorities responded to reports of a weapons disturbance at a home in the 6800 block of FM-1942 around 6:32 PM.

Deputies arriving on scene immediately took on gunfire and effected a tactical retreat.

A SWAT team was requested and officers obtained an arrest warrant for the subject for aggravated assault on an officer.

An hours long standoff ensued and officers later noticed an attic fire.

When a SWAT team attempted to make contact with the suspect they were shot at and forced to fall back.

The fire later erupted into a massive blaze that consumed the home.

The suspect is believed to have died inside the burning building.
