Suspected DUI Crash Leaves Driver Critical On Houston Freeway
A suspected impaired driver was critically injured in a major crash on Houston’s North Freeway early Sunday morning, followed by a separate collision involving a Harris County Sheriff’s Office patrol vehicle.
On November 1, 2026, at approximately 1:30 a.m., HCSO deputies responded to the southbound lanes of Interstate 45 near Parramatta Lane in the 18200 block of North Freeway.
According to Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, a possibly impaired driver failed to maintain a single lane and struck a safety railing at the HOV entrance.
The vehicle then returned to the southbound lanes, where it was struck by another vehicle.
The driver identified by authorities as responsible for the initial crash was transported to a hospital in critical condition. Other individuals involved were also hospitalized in fair condition.
All southbound lanes were shut down as deputies investigated the collision.
During the freeway closure, another driver collided with an HCSO patrol vehicle that was blocking traffic near the original crash scene.
Injuries resulting from the second collision were not immediately known.
The circumstances surrounding both crashes remain under investigation.
