20+ Injured in 11 Vehicle Wrong Way Driver Crash on 101 Freeway

DETAILS:
- CHP Ventura responded to a reported wrong way driver traveling SB in the NB lanes of the 101 Freeway coming from Camarillo
- The vehicle quickly created a multi vehicle crash striking multiple vehicles head on at the Camarillo grade
- 11 vehicles in total were involved
- Two people were trapped in one of the vehicles requiring extrication
- Ventura County Fire upgraded their response to a “Mass Casualty Incident” with 25 fire apparatus and ambulances responding to the scene
- Over 20 people were injured in the crash, 17 declined to be transported, 6 had minor injuries, and the 2 who were trapped in a vehicle were transported in critical condition
- Both directions of the 101 freeway were shut down for minimum one hour and traffic was backed up at a dead stop for nearly 4 1/2 miles
- CHP is investigating the collision
