Houston: Officer-Involved Shooting Leaves Armed Suspect Dead (Caught On Camera)

04.21.2020 | 8:55 PM | HOUSTON – An officer-involved shooting that was caught on camera left an armed suspect dead, Tuesday night.

Officers responded to reports of a hispanic male adult walking in lanes and jumping in front of vehicles in the 800 block of Gazin Street near the East Freeway Frontage Road around 8:55 PM.

Units arriving on scene observed the 27-year-old hispanic male running through traffic and into the backyards of nearby residences but quickly lost visual.

Residents in the area reported that the subject was making threats to them as he fled through the area and later pointed the man out to officers about 15 minutes later.

Officers who made contact with the subject determined he was still armed with a knife or some type of metal object.

The subject threatened the officers and appeared to stab himself with the object in his possession while laying down in a ditch along the East Freeway Frontage Road.

Officers used two tasers and less-lethal bean bag rounds without effect on the subject who pulled out the taser probes and tried to charge officers prompting the officer-involved shooting.

Firefighter paramedics were staged nearby and quickly responded to assess the subject but determined his condition was beyond treatment and pronounced him deceased on scene.

Initial reports indicate the subject had been recently released from jail and was suffering from emotional issues when he got into an argument with is wife.

No injuries were reported to any officers or civilians.

An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal officer-involved shooting is underway and will include a review of body-worn camera footage recorded by officers involved in the incident.
