Wrong Way Driver Too Drunk To Walk A Straight Line

AZ DPS troopers were notified of a wrong-way driver in a Green Camaro traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of I-17 near Thunderbird Road around 11:30 PM Thursday night.
Camera operators with the Highway Patrol Traffic Operations Center quickly spotted the vehicle on ADOT cameras and observed the vehicle swerve to avoid a head-on collision before colliding with a concrete barrier.
The Camaro then self-corrected and began driving northbound in the northbound lanes.
Troopers, Phoenix Police patrol units and the Phoenix Police Air Unit responded to intercept the driver.
A short time later, the Phoenix Police Air Unit located the Camaro stopped off left near the HOV lane just north of Bell Road on I-17.
Phoenix Police patrol units and troopers arrived moments later and blocked in the vehicle.
The driver was quickly detained.
Troopers administered a series of field sobriety tests to the driver.
The driver was observed struggling to walk a straight line during one of the tests.
The driver was taken into custody following the sobriety tests.
Impairment is suspected but cannot be confirmed until further tests have been completed.
