Wrong-Way Driver Causes Fatal Head-On Crash On I-15

One person was killed and multiple others were injured in a wrong-way crash involving four vehicles early Tuesday morning on Interstate 15 in Fallbrook.

At approximately 12:23 a.m. on August 11, 2026, reports began coming in of a wrong-way driver traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of I-15 near State Route 76.

A short time later, callers reported a head-on collision on southbound I-15 near Stewart Canyon Road involving four vehicles.

Escondido Police officers who were nearby quickly arrived and began assessing the victims until firefighters and additional emergency crews reached the scene.

One person was pronounced deceased at the scene. Multiple other people were injured in the collision, although their conditions were not immediately available.

All southbound lanes of I-15 were closed while emergency crews worked the scene and investigators examined the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision.

No additional information regarding the wrong-way driver or what led to the crash was immediately available.

The investigation remains ongoing.
