Woman Shot After Gunfire Erupts At Houston Business

Houston police are investigating a shooting that left a 20-year-old woman wounded after gunfire erupted outside a business before the vehicle she was riding in crashed across the freeway.

At approximately 3:38 a.m. on July 22, 2026, a man and a 20-year-old woman were parked in a vehicle at a business located in the 4800 block of the Gulf Freeway when the property’s key holder responded after receiving a call about people in the parking lot.

According to Houston Police Lieutenant Willkens, the key holder reported hearing what he believed were gunshots and fired back toward the vehicles. One of the rounds struck the 20-year-old woman in the neck while she was seated inside the vehicle.

A second white SUV that had been at the location fled the scene and has not been found.

The wounded woman’s vehicle continued across the freeway before crashing near the 1500 block of Lombardy. The key holder followed the vehicle to the crash scene and remained there, cooperating with investigators.

After the crash, the male driver and the injured woman fled on foot through nearby backyards. Residents who saw them running called police.

Officers located the wounded woman, who was transported to a local hospital in stable condition. The male driver was not located.

Investigators said the vehicle sustained at least one bullet strike through the rear window. No charges have been filed as detectives work to determine whether the key holder was actually being fired upon before returning fire.

The investigation remains ongoing.
