Woman Loses Leg to Train

INCIDENT DATE/TIME: 10-14-24 10:17 pm
LOCATION: 5th Ave & Harbor Dr
AREA/CITY: San Diego
DETAILS:

1. 911 Dispatchers received a call about five people who were run over by a train.
2. When 1st Responders arrived, they found a woman under the train.
3. The woman had a leg severed, and she was transported to a local hospital.
4. It appears that a BNS&F train was sitting on the tracks and blocking access to 5th Ave, across the street from the San Diego Convention Center.
5. A group of people got impatient of waiting, and started to move over and under the train.
6. The train started to move, and two people fell.
7. A man suffered a head injury, but he left the scene before the 1st Responders arrived.
8. The 1st Responders found the woman on the tracks.
9. The train’s engineer did not know about the incident and left, heading north.
10. The train finally was stopped in the northern area of the City of San Diego.
11. SDPD had Harbor Dr shut down in both directions to investigate.
12. The status of the woman is not known at this time.
