Woman Killed After Pickup Slams Into HPD Vehicle On Freeway
A woman was killed and a Houston police officer was hospitalized after a pickup truck slammed into an HPD vehicle that was blocking traffic on a Houston freeway late Wednesday night.
The crash occurred around 10:44 p.m. on September 30, 2026, near Eastex Freeway and Cavalcade Street.
According to HPD Sgt. Barrow, officers had responded to a traffic hazard after a semi-truck spilled part of its load onto the roadway. Police were blocking traffic while the hazard was being handled.
While officers were blocking the freeway, a pickup truck traveling at a high rate of speed crashed into an HPD vehicle.
The female driver of the pickup, described by police as being in her 20s or 30s, was pronounced dead. Her identity was not immediately released.
One Houston police officer was transported to a hospital and was reported to be in stable condition.
Investigators had not determined whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the collision. The investigation remains ongoing.
