Woman Found Dead With Dog Bites in South LA

At approximately 11:39pm on March 4th, 2026, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies and homicide detectives responded to a death investigation near Manchester Avenue and Budlong Avenue in the Vermont Knolls neighborhood of South Los Angeles.

Authorities located the body of a woman inside a nearby homeless encampment behind a KFC in the area. Investigators reported the victim had multiple dog bite wounds across her body, with signs that dogs may have begun eating the remains. Detectives stated it was unclear whether the bite marks occurred before or after the woman’s death.

Animal Control officers responded and removed one small dog from the property, which was the only animal located at the scene.

The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office responded and will determine the victim’s identity and official cause of death.

Authorities stated it was not yet known whether the woman’s death was the result of a homicide. Anyone with information about the case was asked to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500 or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477.
