Wild Pursuit Ends With Large Crowd | Los Angeles
2.22.2021 | 8:00 PM | LOS ANGELES (CNS) – An assault with a deadly weapon suspect surrendered Monday evening following a pursuit that ended when a large group of bystanders gathered near his stopped vehicle in South Los Angeles.
The pursuit began about 8 p.m. near 56th Street and Vermont Avenue, said Officer Mike Lopez with the Los Angeles Police Department. Lopez said he did not have details on the original crime the driver was suspected in.
The driver, whose name was not immediately released, circled around South Los Angeles before entering the northbound Harbor (110) Freeway, then to the eastbound Santa Monica (10) Freeway about 8:15 p.m.
He exited back onto residential streets, and wound through South Los Angeles again. The driver, whose car may have ran across a tire-deflation device set up by police, eventually came to a stop at Wall and 46th streets about 8:50 p.m., where a crowd of bystanders was gathered nearby.
Some raised up their arms and walked almost in front of the suspect’s vehicle as police exited their cruisers behind the car.
Shortly after, the driver exited the vehicle with his hands raised and lay on the ground before being taken into custody.
