Whittier: Shots Fired At Parnell Park

01.05.2020 | 2:25 AM | WHITTIER – A shooting occurred in a problematic homeless encampment, early Sunday morning.

Authorities responded to reports of shots fired at a problematic homeless encampment at Parnell Park located in the 10700 block of Scott Avenue around 2:25 AM.

Units arriving on scene searched through the homeless encampment, referred to by locals as a ‘tent city,’ but were unable to locate any victims.

City officials have proposed shutting down the park to eradicate the growing homeless encampment which residents and authorities have attributed to rising crime.

A 23-year-old woman was found dead only days earlier on New Year’s Day as a result of a suspected drug overdose.
