Whittier: Pickup Truck Shears Fire Hydrant, Unleashes Geyser

12.07.2016 | 1:17 AM | WHITTIER – A female driver was hospitalized after losing control of her truck before striking a tree and shearing fire hydrant, early Friday morning.

Police and fire officials responded to the reported crash in the 12400 block of East Washington Boulevard around 1:17 AM.

Crews arriving on scene found a pickup truck that had sheared a struck a tree and sheared a fire hydrant, unleashing a large geyser.

The female driver was trapped inside the wreckage but quickly freed by firefighters before being transported to USC Hospital.

Crews worked for nearly an hour to shut down the high-pressure hydrant what flooded already slick roads.
