Whittier: Boy Struck By Speeding Car In School Zone (Caught On Camera)
11.18.2019 | 3:18 PM | WHITTIER – A boy was struck by a speeding car while crossing in a school zone in a dramatic crash that was caught on camera by a Ring doorbell, Monday afternoon.
Authorities responded to reports of a traffic collision involving a pedestrian near Orchard Dale Elementary School at the intersection of Cole Road and Lindhall Way around 3:18 PM.
Units arriving on scene located a juvenile pedestrian down suffering from injuries after being struck by a vehicle at speeds well-above the school zone limit.
Firefighter paramedics treated the boy on scene before transporting him to an area trauma center in unknown condition.
Initial reports indicate the boy was leaving a friends home and trying to cross the street to his parents in an awaiting vehicle when he was struck.
The are surrounding the crash is a school zone with multiple signs indicating a speed limit of 25 MPH. Despite the posted signs the driver appeared to be speeding at the time of the crash – a problem residents say is rampant in the area.
While the driver, a female adult, remained on scene and cooperated with law enforcement neighbors hope more can be done to prevent speeding and further crashes in the area.
