Waymo Damaged In Pico-Union Hit-And-Run Crash

Police are investigating an apparent multi-vehicle hit-and-run collision involving a Waymo vehicle early Monday morning in Los Angeles’ Pico-Union neighborhood.

LAPD officers responded around 2:26 a.m. on September 21, 2026, to Pico Boulevard and Union Avenue, where they found a damaged Waymo vehicle and its passenger outside.

Los Angeles firefighters were requested to evaluate the passenger for possible injuries. The passenger did not appear to have suffered any major injuries at the scene.

According to witnesses, as many as two other vehicles may have been involved in the collision and both left before police arrived. Debris believed to have come from at least one of the other vehicles was scattered around the intersection.

A license plate found nearby was turned over to LAPD as possible evidence. One of the vehicles involved was believed to be a red Honda or Toyota, although police had not confirmed a description.

While crews remained at the scene, a separate vehicle was observed running a red light at the intersection and nearly causing another collision.

The circumstances leading up to the Waymo crash remained under investigation.
