Vermont-Square: One Dead, Two Injured After Car Plows Into Homeless Encampment

05.01.2020 | 2:50 AM | LOS ANGELES – One person was dead and two others were injured after a car plowed into a homeless encampment, early Friday morning.

Authorities responded to reports of a traffic collision near the intersection of South Flower and West 52nd streets in the Vermont-Square area shortly before 3:00 AM.

Units arriving on scene located a black sedan that had jumped a curb and plowed into a homeless encampment injuring three.

Firefighter paramedics performed life-saving measures on one victim but ultimately pronounced them deceased on scene. Two other victims were transported to area hospitals unknown condition.

The driver of the vehicle that struck the encampment was uninjured but placed under arrest, possibly on suspicion of DUI.

The area surrounding the crash was closed while officers investigated.
