Ventura: Shrimping Boat Runs Aground After Captain Falls Asleep

05.07.2020 | 12:34 AM | VENTURA – A 40-foot shrimping vessel ran aground after the captain fell asleep at the helm, early Thursday morning.

Authorities responded to reports of a water rescue involving a vessel that ran aground near the Ventura Harbor located in the 1600 block of Spinnaker Drive around 12:34 AM.

Crews arriving on scene located the 40-foot shrimping boat that had ran aground in the surf with two occupants.

Both occupants safely exited the vessel and were not injured.

The captain of the vessel reported he had fallen asleep before the boat ran aground.

The vessel was left on the beach until crews respond in the morning to salvage it.
