Vehicle Torched After Street Takeover In South LA
A vehicle was set on fire in the middle of a South Los Angeles intersection early Saturday morning following apparent street takeover activity.
At approximately 4:45 a.m. on August 8, 2026, emergency crews responded to Western Avenue and Century Boulevard for a vehicle engulfed in flames in the middle of the intersection.
Firefighters worked to extinguish the burning vehicle while police shut down the intersection and diverted traffic away from the scene.
Heavy tire marks covering the roadway were visible around the burned vehicle, indicating recent street takeover activity at the intersection.
Shortly after the vehicle fire was reported, another call involving a street takeover came out just a few minutes away near Avalon Boulevard and Century Boulevard.
A tow truck was requested to remove the burned vehicle while the intersection remained closed.
No information regarding who set the vehicle on fire or whether any arrests were made was immediately available.
