Vehicle Flies 200+ Feet Off Mountain

DETAILS:

  1. On November 11th, 2025 at about 9:44 AM, CHP and County Fire received an automated iPhone crash alert on Highway 18 near Mile-marker 39.
  2. Units arrived at the scene to a vehicle that had crashed though a guardrail and came to rest about 200 feet down the embankment.
  3. Firefighters repelled down to the victim to assess her injuries.
  4. she was extricated from the vehicle, hoisted back up to the roadway and will be transported via air ambulance to a local hospital.
  5. First responders stated that although the victim was awake, the victim was showing severe signs of “altered level consciousness”
  6. victim was unable to identify herself, where she was, what happened, what she was doing that day etc.
  7. Original plants to air lift the patient directly from the area of the crash were cancelled and first responders began the low angle rescue to hoist her up the 200ft drop by foot.
  8. Terrain was dangerous as fire fighters could be seen sleeping and falling multiple times.
  9. The vehicle at the bottom of the gorge was mangled beyond recognition and some first responders described their disbelief that she had survived.
  10. The patient was air lifted from snow valley to loma linda.
  11. CHP explain a deep concern and frustration with the over whelming amount of calls in the the recent weeks involving speeding vehicles and vehicles crashing over the side. 100+ ft down off cliffs all throughout san bernardino mountains.
  12. The cause of this incident is under investigation.
  13. CHP is urging drivers to slow down and pay attention.
