Vehicle Fire Briefly Closes Southbound I-17

Phoenix Fire crews and AZ DPS responded to reports of a vehicle on fire just south of Thomas Road on the southbound I-17 right shoulder.

Responding troopers quickly closed the southbound lanes, diverting all traffic off the mainline at Thomas Road.

Phoenix Fire crews arrived to find a vehicle fully engulfed.

Crews quickly began working to extinguish the flames.

Once the fire was brought under control, troopers lifted the closure and restricted traffic down to the left two lanes.

The vehicle was unoccupied, and no injuries were reported.
