Vehicle Crash Sparks 50+ Acre Brush Fire | San Ysabel
07.03.2021 | 11:34 | SAN YSABEL – A maintenance work truck rear-ended a Motorhome as they were traveling northbound on Hwy 79. Both vehicles erupted in flames and all occupants were able to get to safety. With the vehicles destroyed, the fire spread into the vegetation which was tall dry grasslands. When firefighters arrived, the fire was at a one-half acre and spreading. Within a short time it grew to 10 acres and more resources such as aircraft were called in. As of 2:30 pm, the fire is 50+ acres and growing with zero containment. The residents of the Santa Ysabel Indian Reservation were ordered to evacuate their homes. The firefighters and the aircraft saved the community. The fire reached very close to several of the homes. It is expected to take days for the fire to be extinguished.
