Van Nuys: Suspected DUI Driver Slams Into Patrol Vehicle

12.22.2019 | 3:30 AM | LOS ANGELES – A suspected DUI driver was under arrest after striking a Los Angeles Police Department patrol vehicle, early Sunday morning.

Officers were on scene of a call near the intersection of Sherman Way and Orion Avenue in the Van Nuys area with their patrol vehicle parked and its warning lights activated around 3:30 AM.

A vehicle suddenly slammed into the rear of the parked patrol vehicle before continuing on for approximately 300 feet.

Once stopped officers detained the driver of the vehicle and performed field sobriety tests before taking him into custody on suspicion of DUI.

A sergeant on scene said both officers were lucky to be outside the vehicle as the impact of the crash could have been deadly.
