Van Nuys: Car Fire Prompts Bomb Squad Response
02.17.2020 | 9:34 PM | LOS ANGELES – A bomb squad responded to clear a suspicious device found inside a vehicle that caught fire at a gas station, Monday night.
Authorities responded to reports of a car fire at a gas station near the intersection of Sherman Way and Van Nuys Boulevard in the Van Nuys area around 9:34 PM.
Crews arriving on scene located a black Chevrolet Tahoe with a small fire and quickly extinguished the flames.
A police response was requested due to suspicious circumstances including the presence of a large device in the backseat of the vehicle.
Officers arriving on scene evacuated the immediate area and requested a bomb squad respond to the scene to investigate.
After several hours a bomb squad determined the vehicle and device inside were safe.
Despite clearance from the bomb squad officers have kept the area closed while they continue to investigate.
