Up To 80 Dogs Reportedly Dumped In Houston Neighborhood
Community members spent hours rescuing dozens of dogs reportedly abandoned in a Houston neighborhood Tuesday night.
On October 20, 2026, around 10 p.m., a concerned resident contacted Grizzy’s Hood News after discovering a large number of dogs near Shady and Bantum streets.
Several volunteers responded to help rescue the animals, continuing their efforts past 1 a.m.
One rescuer estimated that approximately 70 to 80 dogs had been dumped in the area, although the total number has not been officially confirmed.
Houston police also responded to the scene. According to HPD Lieutenant Willkens, BARC Animal Shelter was handling the situation.
BARC was expected to take over rescue efforts Wednesday morning.
Two rescuers provided interviews at the scene.
It remains unclear who abandoned the dogs or how many have been rescued.
